Mmm… Coffee… and Money…

Face it. We’re addicted to coffee.

The smell, the taste, the feeling… we love it.

Even if you’re not a coffee drinker, you would agree that as a society we are fiercely loyal to the morning ritual of drinking a hot cup.

It’s been around for thousands of years and it’ll probably be around for many more.

Coffee is not a fad and it’s not going out of style.

Just the kind of thing that you and I should be invested in… I’m going to cut to the chase here. There is no need to convince you about the value of coffee – you might even be sipping a cup while you’re reading this…

Coffee farms in Colombia are looking very attractive right now.

Here is the 10 year chart of coffee prices for arabicas (the type of coffee grown in Colombia, which is the third largest producer in the world): Here is the 10 year chart of the Colombian peso: What we can easily see is that both the price of coffee and the buying power of the Colombian peso is low.

Now, if we were buying coffee with Colombian pesos, we’d be getting a bad deal.

But we’re going to be buying Colombian land (cheap) with US dollars (strong).

In the future, we’ll sell coffee at prices higher than today, but by buying cheap land right now our yield will only increase over time.

In addition, that cheap land which is being driven down by the strong dollar and Colombia’s bad reputation will only increase in value over the years.

So, we can bank on the annual production of coffee while simultaneously allowing the property market to come back to equilibrium.

If you are an experienced investor who’s interested in making a significant investment, email contact@codyshirk.com for more technical information. There is a (somewhat) time sensitive opportunity, due to the current prices of coffee, the weakness of the Colombian peso, the strength of the US dollar, and the bad reputation of Colombia.

MACRO TRENDS

Transportation Revolution

Waze comes to Android Auto.

Waze is an app that allows you to optimize your drive experience by updating, in real time, traffic, hazards and various other things that would impact your drive. If you have never used it, you’re in for a treat. Waze really changes the way you drive.

Android Auto is just the operating system that is used by many vehicles. So, now that Waze is integrated into a vehicle’s operating system, your vehicle will be able to receive real-time updates on everything from weather to accidents to police around the next corner.

Of course, as a driver this will be a great tool and will prevent the need to constantly look at your smart phone. But, imagine what this means for driverless cars.

Cars will be able to navigate around all kinds of obstacles that could be miles ahead.  Additionally, cars will be able to talk to each other and communicate about issues such as pavement quality or lane selection.

Cannabis Amendment

A Washington state marijuana grower has gone from illegally growing the plant to paying thousands of dollars in taxes every year – all because the state laws were changed.

The tax implications are obvious here, but think about all the other expenses that are saved by allowing people to legally grow and sell marijuana.

Drug enforcement, legal prosecution, imprisonment, etc. will all be avoided.

Of course, the common argument will say that marijuana growing comes with other illegal activities – which is one hundred percent true when growing marijuana is illegal; ONLY THE CRIMINALS WILL GROW THE PLANT.
